For those living under a rock, the picture on the left is Michael Jackson. The one on the right is the Iranian woman Neda, in the process of bleeding to death in the street.
You know what? I'm angry.
To paraphrase from my journal: I feel for Jackson's and Fawcett's families, friends, and loved ones. My condolences, in all sincerity.
However, Do I care?
No.
There are still people being beaten, disappeared, and killed in Iran. There might or might not be a serious threat from North Korea.
In Iran, the protests have been going on for more than two weeks now, and that seems to be past the outside limit of the average American's attention span. The flow of new information is slowing, so it ceases to be enough to grab our attention, and no one cares that the reason it's slowing is because the Basij pretty much own Tehran's streets and have no compunction with beating, sometimes to death, anyone: women, men, young, old. It's slowing because the Iranian government's been using protesters' cellphones to track those who upload videos and pictures, and because they tap lines, and because they've effectively shut down or made difficult every real avenue of communication within the country.
But it's no longer a video of a pretty young woman bleeding out on the street as people scream. It's not a photograph of a man with his entire face swollen and covered in blood. So it's not important.
And then two pop figures die and it's a ~*TRAGEDY*~.
With all due respect, what's there to disagree with?
An over-the-hill popstar is dead, and that's a shame. But there are hundreds of innocents injured, dead, or missing right now, and their only crime is protesting injustice.
To my mind, there's no competition.

Yet what is any ocean but a multitude of drops?
Maybe you don't know but Micheal had a very dyficult life. I'm not saying that media should sit quiet about missing ppls and things like that, but it's good that they talk about him all the time. Maybe situations when the artist is eaten by his parents and enviorment will not take place any more. And by the way- maybe not evryone likes his music. Personaly i think most of his albums were peace of crap, but he was a genious and he deserved nice "bye bye!". This situation somehow reminds me of Kurt Cobain. (sory for my bad english ^ ^)
I didn't like his music either, and I feel sorry for whatever difficulties he had, but seriously, it's every news station, every front page, every Facebook status. The problem is, the media and society in general are staying quiet at Iran now that they have ~*MICHAEL*~ to talk about. It's disgusting.

When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community.
